Charging Nomad 18 V batteries at UK Cycle Events

Today we announce that we are delighted to join forces with UK Cycling Events to supply bike washing facilities at all its events in the 2012 season.

We have provided a fleet of washers to allow the hundreds of participants at its events the facility to clean off their bikes before they go home and to experience what our many existing customers already appreciate – a quality, effective, safe way of cleaning bikes. The build of our products, their superior cleaning power and superior cordless battery system make them ideal for this purpose.

Recently voted the What Mountain Bike magazine group test winner the Nomad 18 V Cordless portable pressure washer uses a removable cordless powertool 18 volt battery.  The battery will run the washer for 30 to 40 minutes continuously and will empty about 5 tanks of water in that time.  With on average 2 bikes washed per tank that is 10 bikes per battery charge.  The batteries take approximately 1 ½ hrs to recharge.  Slide rule out…….

With the experience of supplying and running a bike wash facility at the UCI XC World Cup round at Dalby Forest we have put a kit of Nomad washers, additional batteries and chargers together for the UK Cycles Events Team to use during 2012.  In fact we have gone one better than filling a tent with chargers as we did at Dalby, we have build up a dedicated self-contained charging station.  See below.

Bob, my good friend and I – me with my foot in a cast (don’t ask)  - spent a couple of days designing and building a box containing 12 Nomad 18 V battery mains chargers.  This allows 12 Nomad 18 V batteries to be charged simultaneously unlike a commercially available charger that charges them sequentially – one after another (who’s got time for that)!  So we put our thinking caps on and us two engineers came up with a rugged simple solution.

Nomad pressure washers come out tops in What Mountain Bike test

We knew it all along, but we’re delighted that in January’s issue of What Mountain Bike – issue 130 – both the Nomad 12 V and Nomad 18 V were rated the best portable pressure washers, with the Nomad 18 V being declared ‘What Mountain Bike Winner’.

What’s more they described Nomad washers as the’ go-to brand for powered cleaning solutions for all sorts of sports.’ Wow!

In this comprehensive test, not only did the editors put ours and our competitors’ washers through a range of tests, they also spoke to you, the users, for your experiences.  They looked at the cleaning  power,  features,  ease of use and quality, and finally scored the products out of five.  So how did they reach their conclusions?

Nomad 12 V.  Our ‘entry level’ model beat all our competitor’s similar car-powered washers, both cheaper and more expensive ones, and was described as ‘a really well designed, easy to user friendly, car-powered washer ‘ scoring 3.5 out of a maximum 5.

Nomad 18 V. Winner. Our cordless washer was awarded the winner title over the whole test, being summarised as ’Dual power versatility from the Nomad 18 V plus a great quality, user friendly feel’. They testers also said: “The most expensive on test justifies itself with dual power user friendliness and really well designed functionality.”

Bike Shops Galore….

You can tell the weather has finally got wintery… Fellow bikers everywhere are pulling out their old Dirtworkers and their new Nomad washers and even some of their LBS’s (Local Bike Shops) are joining in the fun, as even more are wanting to stock the new Nomad 12 V Auto Cord and Nomad 18 V Cordless Portable Pressure Washers.

Nomad at Your Horse Live 2011

What a show we had.  We met so many old friends, made lots of new ones.  The new stand looked amazing – thank you to everyone that worked so hard on it and the sales of Nomad 18V, well let’s just say we will need an even bigger van next year!

It is always nice to hear that customers love their Nomad for washing horses off.  We truly lost count how many people came up to us on the stand and said so.  Prospective customers on the stand must have thought we had paid stooges!  It does make all the hard work so worthwhile…..glad you like them and thank you again for taking the time to come and see us.

Of course we were not alone as we had a number of our resellers there too on their own stands, so it’s a big thank to you all:-  Clippersharpe, Jumps Online, Hot Horse Products, Equi-trek Tregaron.

The mountain bike race team we have sponsored for many years Torq Fitness were also at the show providing advice and samples of their professional performance and recovery foods, gels and drinks for humans and not for horses for a change!  Good luck to Matt, Sasha and the rest of the guys for striving to make riders more healthy and performing to their optimum.

Warm water washing was a big discussion topic as the weather is finally starting to turn, which led to the Cosy Cover for the Nomad 18 V going down extremely well and very quickly selling out – all back orders will be filled this week from new stock.  The water heater we have tested with the Nomad 18V and sell an adapter hose for to Friday Fox, Hot Horse Products and Bell Tent UK also garnered a great deal of interest.  For yards without mains water or electricity, the water heateris a great cost effective solution.  The cold water in a Nomad 18 V tank can be pumped through the bottled gas  powered heater and either used from the heaters own spray head on re-circulated back into the Nomad’s tank for using in another location.  Quick, no fuss warm/hot water wherever you are.  No one wants to use cold water this time of the year!

The option to pay on the day for a Nomad 18 V and have it delivered by the Tuesday after the show worked well and saved lots of carrying back to cars and coaches – we will do that again.  The platinum, gold, silver and bronze package deals went down well and several were sold and it’s clear Santa is going to be busy with the number of Nomads on peoples Christmas Lists!

It was great to see so many visitors at the Show and a big thank you must go out to Bauer Media for putting on such a great event.

Get cosy, keep cosy

The heating’s on and off at the moment, a sure sign that the colder autumn weather is starting to make itself felt.  And when you’re riding your horse or bike in these conditions there’s nothing worse than completing your ride and having a muddy bike that you pack away or horse your take back in your box after a hunt, muddied up, that you have to clean later when the mud has dried.

So don’t leave it until it’s too late to buy your Nomad Cosy. Commissioned to fit snuggly around the Nomad 18 V, this insulating layer keeps warm water warm in your Nomad. Which means if you fill the tank with hot water before you set out, a few hours later it will remain toasty, and you can clean your bike or horse down with luxurious warm water after your ride.  And don’t forget you can shower yourself, too. Oasby Horse Trials. October 15th – 16th

  • 2 days
  • 120 clean calm horses
  • 840 litres of water
  • 60 Nomad tankfuls of water
  • Half a tank of water per horse – Just 7 litres (1.5 gallons) each

That’s less than half a bucketful per horse!

The end of the season Bede event demonstrated how effective the Nomad portable washer is in quickly and effectively removing sweat and mud from horses at the end of the cross-country course.

The now familiar portable washers were put to the test and a welcome sight for riders finishing the course who instinctively grabbed the spray guns and set to work bathing their mounts with pre-warmed water.

On a sunny autumn day, this was a perfect ending to an excellent and friendly Bede British Eventing series.

Osberton 29 Sept – 2 October – It’s a sell-out

Fine weather and high temperatures over the course of Osberton International Horse Trials meant that cooling horses in as quick a possible time was paramount. So these were perfect conditions to demonstrate the convenience and effectiveness of the Nomad 18 V cordless washer.

For each of the cross-country rounds Nomad Direct provided free use of demonstrator Nomad washers in the 10 minute area so that riders and their crews could quickly get the heart rate of their horses down after the strenuous cross country course. An ample supply of ice allowed us to pre-chill the water in the washers’ tanks,  giving horses a soothing cooling.

The response was fantastic with many users appreciating the simplicity of the Nomad.  No buckets, no sponges. Just cool water on demand that could be aimed directly at difficult to reach parts of the horse – such as between the hind quarters – to bring down their temperature and heart rate quickly and safely.  In many instances we were preaching to the converted but the riders simply took advantage of the facility

For others it was a revelation and a turning point: to ditch the old ways!  As a result we sold out.  Thank you to all our customers on the day.

“We have had the Nomad washer for around a year and it has been used to wash down our two carriage driving ponies after heavy exercise at least 4 times a week – every week. A fantastic product – reliable, extremely portable and the ponies enjoy being washed and cooled down at the same time. It has proved to be much more effective than using a hose pipe or bucket of water. In summer it cools them down efficiently and in winter we can get the sweat off without getting the two of them too wet. At competitions between stages it is simple to get out of the lorry and quickly hose down tack, carriage as well as the ponies themselves. We have found it handy to have a spare battery and in-lorry charger to get us through a weekend. A great buy.”
