Nomad Sponsors Joe Whitaker in his Charity Solo Attempt at the Wades Road Double in a Day!

We are proud to be associated with Joe and his support team in the atttempt to ride the Wades Road double.  It is 100 miles of the hardest trails in the country, It goes from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William, Joe and friends were the first to complete it within a day non stop a few years ago and since then four of the best riders in the UK have tried to complete it as a double, that is, there and back, 200 miles) but they have all failed due to exhaustion shortly after starting the return leg. Joe is going to attempt is solo for the charity Aurora Centre.  Joe will be using a Nomad 12 V Auto Corded washer to keep his drive train and gears free of mud and grime to give himself the best chance of achiving this very tough goal.  Follow his progress on  the blog on his website.

Epic!

All the best from the team at Nomad Direct.

Sleepless in the Saddle (SITS) 24 Hr Mountain Bike Race 2011

Well last weekend at Catton Park was a fantastic event as ever hosted by Pat Adams and the rest of the great team at Provelo Support.  One of the key Sponsors Kenda Tyres had two mixed 5 person teams and we all had great fun.  We joined them in one of the Kenda teams and had really great fun pitting ourselves against strong competition and more than a little inter and inner team rivalry…..

Issued with Team kit and the most amazing tyres – Kenda Small Block-8’s we all looked the part and had arguably the fastest tyres available – up to and after the massive down pour.  Our Nomad Portable Pressure Washers came into their own when the queue for the Jet washers (bike killers) was nearly the length of the start finish straight!

The course was a mixture of tight single track and grass climbs and descents and a few carriage driving obstacles thrown in.

So how did we do:  Team Kenda Kwick Seal came 11th out of 64 mixed male/female teams of 5 riders with 30 laps of the 8.5 mile course in 24:16:30.  Team Kenda Thorn Resistant completed 22 laps in a total of 24:21:07 to be placed 49th.

The guys from Moore Large – distributors behind Kenda Tyres – Martin Pounder and David Jack were the perfect hosts and team managers.  Can’t say thank you enough for looking after us all even in the darkest hours.

A really great event that has been going for over a decade now and is a must on our list for next year…. Well done to all that took part and a huge thank you to all that organised and marshalled the event.

Cool and scrape off the sweat from yours horses and ponies.

Polo Times August 2011:

The importance of cooling down horses in the heat, and scraping off of sweat, no matter if the weather is hot or cold, is emphasised in this month’s Polo Times.

The article written by Mark Emerson ambulatory equine vet  – emersonequine.com  – stresses the need not only to cool horses with water but to quickly scrape of the excess water and sweat – thus removing heat more quickly and reducing muscle damage.  More info in Polo Times or visit Mark’s website.

This is how the Nomad portable washer is relevant.  Ice in the tank rapidly cools any water in there, making it super effective when used to bring down the temperature of horses.  Plus while some Polo clubs are installing hosing bays in polo lines, the Nomad uses the water available more sparingly and effectively and can be picked up and moved around when things get busy.  And it can be used back at the yard or home for general cooling and cleaning duties.

Nomad sponsors horse trials at Shelford 17 to 18 August

We’re delighted to be taking over – well, not quite – the next event managed by the fantastic Bede Events .

Just up the road from our operations this is our second visit this year.  We’re not sure what the weather outlook is but there are sure to be horses that will benefit from cooling and cleaning with the Nomad washers.  We will be there at the end of the cross country course waiting for you!  And if it’s very hot, and you’re very hot we won’t mind if you grab the spray and cool yourself down. We’re like that.

Do come and have a chat, ask for a demonstration – you will be sold.  We take cash and credit/debit cards except American Express.

You can even order in advance and recieve a £20.00 discount on a Nomad 18 V if you use web code SHEL082010 in the checkout.  The goods can be collected from the trade stand at the event.

See you there.

World Polocrosse championships in Rugby, July 2011

Better late than never, here’s a quick update on this fantastic event.

If you didn’t go, shame on you! It was start to finish action between the teams and sun-rain-sun-rain in terms of the weather.

This gave the Nomad washer the perfect opportunity to demonstrate its all-round versatility.

On the Friday, the day of the semis the heat meant there wasn’t much mud around but the ponies got hot.  With just 2 Nomad washers at each end of the pitch, cooling the ponies was a breeze.  Typically the grooms used roughly a third of a tank of water per chukka to cool 3 ponies – half a tank at ‘worst’.

The very directional spray proved perfect for jetting water between the ponies’ hind quarters and then for providing an all-over blanket of water for showering – as can be seen here.

With overnight rain and continued downpours on the Saturday, the surface of the pitch become somewhat muddy – and the Nomads demonstrated their ability to shift it from the ponies – resulting in beaming faces all round.

True to form the weather turned again for the final with a mixture of wet and dry.  And the ponies loved their shower …….

Proof that the Nomad is essential kit fit for the games of polo.
