FNSS – Friday Night Summer Series Mountain Bike Racing and Nomad

Nomad direct for the second year running is one of the sponsors and is also racing in one of the longest continuously running mountain bike cross country race series in the UK.  In its 20th year the FNSS is competitive but remains a very open race series with regularly over 150 riders form all age groups and both sexes.

The Velo Club Rutland are always well represented as the picture from Round 8 Bulwick shows.  A number of local bike clubs also field strong teams of riders.  There are also a huge number of private entrants.

Neil Holman of George Halls  Cycle Centre of Market Harborough is the man behind it all and with his helpers they work tirelessly to ensure the venues are well chosen, the racing is fun and the results are posted on line quickly.  The series is continuing to invest heavily in both its website and custom made electronic timing system.  The big plus for many riders is that getting the racing over and done with on a Friday night, it leaves the rest of the weekend free for other commitments or more riding!  For just £7.00 a race (£8.00 on the day) and cash prizes up for grabs it’s a great way to get into racing and meet lots of new riding buddies.  Whether you are a Junior, Senior, Veteran or Grand Vet there is always close racing.

With 15 rounds this year, including  a Team Relay, a 3 Hour Enduro and an end of season handicapped/fancy dress/BBQ it’s a great fun series for both serious race heads and those just wanting to beat their mates round some fantastic race circuits.

If you are in the East Midlands why not come along, you can pay on the night and give it a go.  Next one is at the Milton Keynes Bowl and is sure to be a great deal of fun……  We might see you there?

Need to water your garden without wasting water?

Over the last month a number of regions in the United Kingdom have announced that while not yet in place, hosepipe bans may be needed owing to water shortages caused by a lack of rain. East Anglia, for example, is officially experiencing a drought.

One way to save water, or if you’re no long able to water your garden or plants in pots using a hosepipe, is by using a Nomad Cordless portable washer.  First it is totally portable – but it also has a 6 metre (20 foot) hose that means you won’t have to do much moving it around.  Second, the tank is detachable allowing you to refill it.  “Where from?” you ask.  Well another great thing is that you can dunk the tank into a rain water butt or fill it from sources other than taps.  The neck of the tank has a mesh filter that prevents silt and other debris entering the tank.

You can adjust the spray nozzle so you can water narrower to wider surface areas and avoid waste, or you can remove the spray gun and use just liek a hose pipe.  In the longer term we will all need to find ways of conserving water as demand continues to grow.

Once you’ve bought a Nomad, you’ll find very useful and find yourself reaching out for many chores around your home:  cleaning your car, windows, pets to name just a few.

Elite Endurance GB Rider Tests Nomad 18 V Cordless Horse Washer/Cooler

I was given a Nomad to try at the Golden Horse Shoe.  I had already seen the Nomad in action at an Elite Squad training weekend last year and liked the look of it so was very keen to test it out.

Although it looked good, I was unsure if it would fit with our ‘crewing style’.  I am a bit of a ‘Luddite’ where new things are concerned and where endurance is concerned, it has taken us years to reach a satisfactory level of proficiency on the crewing front.  It has to be said, we usually take too many water containers (the ones that hold 2 and a half buckets of water) and the car is always awash at the end as a result.

We found the Nomad easy to carry (easier than a bucket owing to its flat sided shape and much easier to carry than a water container).  The Nomad holds the equivalent of a bucket of water, which doesn’t seem much but because the water comes in a spray, the water is directed more efficiently and seems to cool the horse more quickly than the traditional method.  You can put ice in the tank and using the fine mist, this would cool the horse nicely.    Water is used efficiently and without wastage, so you get away with carrying less water, which has to be a good thing but also, more environmentally friendly!

I used it on two very different horses and found that once they were used to the low rumble of the motor, they were quite happy with it (they are not unfamiliar with a cold hosepipe).  For one horse in particular it was great since he delights in knocking over buckets for a pastime; the shoulder strap allows you to carry it with you and follow the horse whilst it is being walked to further aid cooling.

The Nomad was easy to put together and even easier to use.  It is simply a case of sticking the charged battery in its cradle and attaching the hose and away you go.

Apart from cooling the horses down in a vet gate, it has endless uses.   At the end of a ride, you can spray over your bridles, girths, boots, etc; – it takes seconds and saves hours of scrubbing when you get home.  You can clean the inside and outside of the trailer very efficiently without having to borrow hubby’s power washer, clean boots after a muddy ride is heavenly and stops mud being trampled into the car.  Using warm water, you can even have a shower yourself but as importantly if the horse has any cuts or grazes, they can be hosed down with clean warm water reducing the chance of infection.  Again, using the warm water option, it is great for washing the dog!  All in all, a brilliant bit of kit which can do a multitude of tasks at home, around the yard and at events.

Its now firmly part of my kit and wouldn’t be without it!

Nomad sponsors the World Polocrosse championships in Rugby, July 2011

We’re delighted to announce today that Nomad Direct has been invited to attend the World Cup Finals of the Polocrosse championships .  This exciting game is a combination of Polo and lacrosse and the world’s best ponies and riders will be playing at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre on the outskirts of Rugby in the heart of England.

The event will be televised by Sky television and is expected to draw large crowds and media interest.

The Nomad Cordless washers will be demonstrated to the Polocrosse players for their ability to cool and clean ponies quickly and effectively after the strenuous activity of this sport.  We will make our washers available for testing and for sale.

Nomad has already established itself in the eventing fields, and carriage driving – see reports below – and is being bought far and wide including from polo pony owners in the Middle East.

If you want to reserve a Nomad to purchase, please contact us via the contact area of our website.

We look forward to seeing you there.
